Ira Helfand, MD is a member of the International Steering group of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) and past President  the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW). Both of these organizations received the Nobel Peace Prize for their work on alerting the public to the danger of nuclear war and calling for concrete actions to reduce the danger. He was once introduced as “the quietist, scariest person on the planet” as he was about to speak on the consequences of Nuclear War.
