Chapter Chair Update - Summer 2022
Often, the news and media we hear and see can fill us with fear and heartbreak. It is important to take a step back from that and remind ourselves of the good things still happening in this world. One success story in our own backyard is the osprey.
Member Profile - John Dixon
As part of the celebration for Sierra Club Connecticut’s 50th Anniversary, we wanted to highlight some long term members and volunteers of our chapter. It is inspiring and motivating to hear what can be accomplished when we come together to work towards our goals. Thank you, John!
Take a look at the highlights from Sierra Club Connecticut’s current campaigns and what we’ve been working on this last month. As always, thank you to all of our volunteers—we couldn’t do this without you!
Why Environmental Justice is Part of Reproductive Justice
You may wonder how the overturning of Roe v. Wade has anything to do with environmental issues. Besides the undertones of ecofascism in the overturning, the bottom line is that many of the environmental issues we face today impact our choices around having children – and so environmental justice becomes an important aspect of reproductive justice.

Join Our Team to Visit Car Dealerships and Hold the Auto Industry Accountable
Automakers are trying to show off their green vehicle options as gas prices soar, but are they really promoting electric vehicles? Or just greenwashing? Let’s hold the industry accountable together so we can help advance zero-emission solutions that combat climate change and deliver clean air.
The Outdoors are for Everyone
In 2019, Sierra Club Outdoors transformed into Outdoors for All with a philosophy that access to nature is a basic human right. We strive to bring that vision to our own chapter and are excited to share what Sierra Club Connecticut has been up to so far this summer in our Outings Program!
False Solutions - "Chemical Recycling"
Environmental organizations throughout the United States, including Sierra Club, have been pushing back on an onslaught of legislation attempting to permit so-called “chemical recycling” or “advanced recycling” facilities. It is important to stay informed and learn about some positive alternative solutions so we can see through this greenwashing of the plastics industry.
We are growing our team of volunteer leaders and now have several Chapter Chair positions open for the following committees – Conservation, Political, Outings, and Membership. If you are an active Sierra Club member and are looking to make a big difference in the success of the Connecticut chapter, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know your future leadership position interests.
