Climate Awareness Campaign Urges Governor Lamont to Act Boldly on Climate!

Ann Gadwah

Greetings! I hope you are doing well and staying safe. Sierra Club Connecticut, in partnership with Connecticut Citizen Research Group and ten other allies, have begun a Climate Awareness Campaign urging Governor Lamont to take bold administrative action to combat the climate crisis. We are aiming for thousands of grassroots messages from all over the state to reach the Governor by October. The campaign began in earnest over the past couple weeks and will continue for the month of September into October.

On Saturday, August 21, 2021, Sierra Club Connecticut had a table at the Milford Oyster Festival. The festival was well attended and almost 300 people signed our postcard to the Governor asking for swift, bold climate action here in Connecticut. People were enthusiastic about the campaign and eager to have their voices heard.

On Friday, August 27, 2021, we began “Climate Fridays on Prospect”. A group of passionate activists rallied on the corner of Prospect and Asylum in West Hartford, outside the Governor’s official residence, calling on him to take bold administrative climate action. This is a weekly event, and all are welcome to come out and make some noise for our planet. For updates on this event and others, see our Facebook Events or Connecticut Chapter Events & Outings.

On Saturday August 28th, teams of volunteers were on hand at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven, and Hammonasset State Park in Madison where even more postcards were filled out and are on their way to the Governor’s desk.

TAKE ACTION! Send a message to the Governor - Connecticut must lead on climate action!

This is just the first of many weeks of events. We plan to table at farmer’s markets, country fairs, and more. We will need people to participate in and volunteer for these events. We will need all hands on deck to make this campaign successful, so if you are interested in volunteering or have events in your area coming up and would like to help spread the campaign message, please reach out to Ann Gadwah. Thank you for your dedication to protecting our state and the planet. Talk soon.
